The Rotary Club of Waikato Sunrise is proud to support Te Rauhii, an organisation making significant strides in bringing music to tamariki and rangatahi in the Waikato. Their mission to provide 100% free access to music education resonates deeply with our commitment to equity and opportunity.

Operating in Hamilton’s Nawton/Crawshaw area, Te Rauhii provides inclusive and engaging music education through a culturally responsive, play-based curriculum. Many whaanau face financial challenges that would normally make private lessons or

instruments unattainable. By providing everything from lessons to instruments and exam fees free of charge, Te Rauhii creates an inclusive environment where no student is left behind.

The programme’s impact is profound. We have seen firsthand how music education reduces stress and anxiety, boosts emotional wellbeing, and fosters a sense of belonging and community. Te Rauhii not only enhances musical skills but also helps students build positive relationships, contributing to healthy families and community pride. The inclusive, holistic approach demonstrated by the tutors ensures that students develop not just as musicians but as well-rounded individuals ready to take on life’s challenges.

The grant was provided as part of a WSR funding round. We encourage community groups and initiatives that align with our mission to apply, as we continue striving to support and uplift as many young people as possible. CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT WSR FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES.

Waikato Sunrise Rotary is particularly inspired by the dedication of the Te Rauhii team – tutors Marieke Nation, Kristin Browne, Chris Nation, Martin Griffiths, Clive Lamdin, Samara Nation, and Programme Manager Jex Moore. We are honoured to be a part of a community that is helping to shape the future of Aotearoa, one note at a time.
