Over the long weekend Hamilton hosted the HSBC NZ Sevens for the second year, and we were back supporting The Village with their hosting as one of our key fundraising activities.
Last week members of Waikato Sunrise Rotary delivered dictionaries to year 4 kids at Melville and Crawshaw Primary Schools.
Last night the Volunteering Waikato Volunteer Excellence Awards for 2018 took place. We were lucky enough to attend as we were sponsoring an award. What an amazing night to recognise the amazing and generous people in our communities who give so much to help others.
Last month a group of Waikato Sunrise Rotarians traveled to Taveuni on a remote island off Fiji to work on an old building, turning it into a maternity hospital for local women and families. The team were there for a very busy week cleaning, painting, building and setting the building up for it's new purpose.
A reminder what we have donated funds to this year. Below are the organisations we have donated money, sponsored people to attend or have provided. We have heard from some of those involved and stay tuned for more speakers so you can hear the value of our contributions.
In May 2018 WSR donated $3000 to Reclaim Another Woman (RAW) for a laptop for Norefjell to complete her studies.
RAW would like to thank Rotary for supporting RAW’s work and investing specifically in Norefjell’s future. Norefjell has moved mountains in the 3 years she has been with RAW. She now sits on RAW’s governance board as an advisor, is a significant driver of RAW’s Māori Strategy under development, and a regular speaker advocating for change for women in prison and the RAW programme.
