Speaker: Ray Klinginsmith
In March 2011, Waikato Sunrise proudly hosted the inaugural Rotary Paul Harris Community Awards in Hamilton. Rotary International President (2010/11), Ray Klinginsmith, was guest speaker at this prestigious black tie event.
This event was an initiative of the Rotary Club of Waikato Sunrise. Together with other local clubs – the Rotary clubs of Hamilton, Hamilton East, Fairfield and Huntly – seven Paul Harris Fellowships were awarded to non-Rotarian community contributors.
Rotary’s work – locally, nationally and internationally – is focused on humanitarian contribution and the well being of communities. Rotary also promotes high ethical standards in business. Those awarded a Paul Harris fellowship at this event were measured alongside these important Rotary principles.
The Rotary Club of Waikato Sunrise awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship to Anthea Simcock, CEO of Child Matters, in special appreciation for her contribution to community in raising awareness of child abuse and neglect, and encouraging all to stand up and be a voice for the protection of our youth.
The Rotary Club of Fairfield awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship to Yvonne Wilson, founding manager of the Frankton Dinsdale Rauaawawa Trust, in special appreciation for her contribution to community, in particular the development of services for older Maori.
The Rotary Club of Hamilton East awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship to Neil Bruce, founder of Men’s Sheds, in special appreciation for his contribution to community service in the fields of education, music and the wellbeing of men in the community.
The Rotary Club of Huntly awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship to Claire Molloy, Order of St John, in special appreciation for her contribution to the Huntly community, in particular to St John and to youth.
The Rotary Club of Waikato Sunrise awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship to Elizabeth Bang, CEO of Hospice Waikato, in special appreciation for her contribution to community, particularly to women, and to the establishment of a state of the art Hospice centre to serve the Waikato Community.
