Big Brothers Big Sisters

$5,000 donation

In September 2011,  Waikato Sunrise donated $5000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters (video) Hamilton,  to assist them in continuing their work with at risk youth.  More than 500 young people each year have a mentor in one of the 13 Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) programmes operating around the country,  and research shows that the mentoring of youth that is put in place by BBBS,  works.  Young people with a Big Brother or Big Sister show real differences in their personal and academic lives.

Waikato Sunrise members present the Toyota Platz to Big Brothers Big Sisters, 2010

In December 2010,  Waikato Sunrise donated $10,000 tagged for the purchase of a vehicle for Big Brothers Big Sisters Hamilton.  The Toyota Platz was a welcome addition at the time to their  fleet of one vehicle,  for the BBBS team to undertake their family liaison visits and other meetings.   During a visit to the club by the Trust Project Leader,  Lexlei Taylor and Hamilton Police Youth Development leader,  Lance Tebbutt,  the provision of a vehicle for this important work was praised as a truly grass roots donation that would contribute significantly to the community needs served by BBBS.
